Kaysville History
Settled 1849 • Davis County’s first incorporated city (1868)
Kaysville grew up along Kay’s Creek, where Samuel Holmes built a cabin in 1849, soon joined by Edward Phillips, John Green, and William Kay — the bishop the town was named for. On March 15, 1868, Kaysville became the first incorporated city in Davis County.
Worth Knowing
- City-owned power since 1908. Kaysville runs its own electric utility — one of the few Utah cities that does.
- Layton was once Kaysville. Layton farmers fought Kaysville taxation all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court (Linford v. Ellison, 1894) and eventually split off.
- The first in the county. Incorporated 27th in all of Utah Territory.
