Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area is one of Utah’s premier spots for birding and wildlife viewing, spread across the wetlands where Farmington meets the Great Salt Lake. An auto-tour dike road carries visitors out toward Goose Egg Island, and the adjacent George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center offers free exhibits and an accessible nature trail.

What to See & Do
- Birding and wildlife photography — ducks, herons, egrets, and yellow-headed blackbirds in season
- Bald eagles are often visible in winter and early spring
- Drive or bike the dike out toward Goose Egg Island, with interpretive signs, benches, and valley views
- Free exhibits and programs at the Eccles Wildlife Education Center
- Walk the 1.6-mile nature trail loop (stroller- and wheelchair-friendly; leashed dogs welcome on the trail)
Access & Licenses
Under a Utah law effective May 7, 2025, anyone 18 or older must hold a valid Utah hunting, fishing, or combination license to enter Waterfowl Management Areas in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber counties — this includes the Farmington Bay WMA itself. No license is required to visit the Eccles Wildlife Education Center or its nature trails. Always confirm current rules with Utah DWR before you go.
