Deer in Bountiful
What to know about the east bench’s most famous residents
Mule deer wander Bountiful’s east bench neighborhoods year-round — beloved by some residents, a garden menace to others. Here’s what every Bountiful resident should know about living with urban deer.
The Rules
- Feeding deer is against the law in Bountiful (City Code 10-1-121) — report violations to Bountiful Police at 801-298-6000
- Dead, sick, or injured deer — or orphaned fawns: call the DWR Northern Region office at 801-476-2740
- Bountiful runs an Urban Deer Control Plan with the Utah DWR; approved removals run August 1 – December 31, and all harvested meat must be processed for use
By the Numbers
Urban deer captures under the plan: 40 in 2021, 24 in 2022, zero in 2023 and 2024, and 9 in 2025.
Protecting Your Garden
The DWR publishes a list of landscaping plants mule deer tend to leave alone — see Wild Aware Utah. Full program details on the city deer page.
