$225M SR-177 Extension Brings Major Construction to West Point This Summer

What Is the SR-177 West Davis Corridor Extension?

UDOT is extending SR-177 — the West Davis Corridor — 2.5 miles north to 1800 North in West Point at a cost of $225 million. Construction begins summer 2026 and is scheduled for completion in 2028. The project adds two lanes in each direction, builds a new interchange at SR-193, and includes three bridges over 300 North, 800 North, and 1300 North. It directly affects commuters and residents in West Point, Syracuse, and Clinton.

If you live in western Davis County, this summer is going to look different on the roads — and by 2028, the commute will too.

The Utah Department of Transportation is moving into full construction on the SR-177 West Davis Corridor Extension, a $225 million project that will push the highway 2.5 miles north to 1800 North in West Point. Heavy construction begins this summer with completion targeted for 2028.

The project’s scope has grown since the original 2017 environmental study — a direct response to the region’s rapid growth. Two lanes in each direction will now be built instead of the originally planned one lane each way.

“With all the growth we’re seeing in Davis County, two lanes in each direction are now needed,” UDOT Region 1 Senior Communication Manager Mitch Shaw told the Standard-Examiner.

What’s Being Built

  • New interchange at SR-193 with on and off ramps
  • Three bridges over 300 North, 800 North, and 1300 North
  • At-grade intersection at the 1800 North terminus in West Point
  • Extension of the Emigrant Trail from 1300 North to the Weber County line
  • Two lanes in each direction throughout

Utility relocations were completed in 2025. This summer brings land clearing, earthmoving, and heavy machinery working through site preparation, drainage, foundation, and paving phases. Residents near the corridor in West Point, Syracuse, and Clinton should plan for significant construction activity through 2028.

Why It Matters for Western Davis County

Western Davis County is one of the fastest-growing areas on the Wasatch Front. UDOT projects that by 2050, the number of homes in western Davis and Weber counties will increase by 74%. The SR-177 extension is designed to provide long-term capacity for that growth.

A state environmental study is also underway on a potential further extension from 1800 North in West Point into Weber County. That study is expected to conclude by late 2026, but the extension is not yet funded and has no construction timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does SR-177 construction start in West Point?

Heavy construction on the SR-177 extension begins summer 2026. Utility work was completed in 2025. The project is scheduled for completion in 2028.

Will SR-177 extend into Weber County?

UDOT is currently studying that possibility. A State Environmental Study is evaluating an extension from 1800 North in West Point to approximately 4000 South in West Haven, Weber County. Results are expected by late 2026, but the extension is not funded and has no construction timeline.
