This Week in Layton: Veterans Parade, Council Rezone Hearing, Parks Commission (Nov 2–8)
Layton’s week is built around a Saturday tribute to veterans and a Thursday City Council meeting that includes a public hearing on a Main Street rezone. Here is what the city has posted for Nov. 2 through Nov. 8.
On the calendar
Layton’s Veterans Parade and Veterans Honors Ceremony — Saturday, Nov. 7. The city lists the parade at 11 a.m., and its description says it steps off at 11:11 a.m. Parade units line up at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot at 789 Wasatch Drive. The route runs along Wasatch Drive and through Layton Commons Park, ending near Hawthorne Drive at the south end of the park. A short Veterans Honors Ceremony follows at the Vietnam Memorial Wall Replica site at about 12:30 p.m. Admission is free. Community and veterans groups are invited to join the parade; the city’s listing points to an entry form on its event page, and says no political statements or references are allowed. Questions go to Dennis Howland at 801-389-1893.
Meetings
Parks and Recreation Commission, Monday, Nov. 2, 5–6 p.m. The commission meets at Layton City Center, 437 N. Wasatch Drive. The city’s listing does not name agenda items.
City Council, Thursday, Nov. 5. A work meeting is listed for 5:30 p.m., and the regular meeting for 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Layton City Center. The city’s public hearing notice says the council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a proposed rezone of about 0.926 acres at approximately 608 S. Main Street, from MU (Mixed-Use) to C-H (Planned Highway Commercial). A hearing is not a decision. Comments are welcome at the meeting, and the notice lists the Community and Economic Development Department at 801-336-3780 for questions. We will report the outcome once the city posts it.
