Farmington’s calendar for Oct. 5 through 11 opens with the fire department’s annual open house and a City Council public hearing, and the city has posted a few notices residents may want to act on now. Here is what the city has scheduled, drawn from its September newsletter and public notices.

Monday, Oct. 5: Fire Department open house

The Farmington Fire Department invites residents to its annual open house from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, to meet firefighters and look over the trucks and equipment. One note on location: the newsletter’s event listing gives the downtown station at 82 N. 100 E., while its calendar page places the open house at the new west-side Fire Station 72, 471 N. Innovator Drive. Check the city’s website or call the fire department at 801-451-2842 before you go.

Tied to the new station, the city’s Historic Preservation Commission is putting together a display on the fire department’s history and is asking residents who have photographs, memorabilia or old equipment from the past century to get in touch through the city.

Tuesday, Oct. 6: City Council meeting and public hearing

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at City Hall, 160 S. Main St. The council is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a request to amend the conservation easement for the Farmington Meadows Phase 1 subdivision. The requested change would allow a barn to be built inside the easement area. The council is scheduled to consider the request after the hearing; no decision has been made yet. The full agenda is posted on the city website and at City Hall before the meeting.

Around town

  • Extra garbage pickup, Saturday, Oct. 17. The city has scheduled an extra collection day starting at 6 a.m. sharp. Details are expected in the October newsletter, so watch for what can go out and how.
  • Lead inventory letters are real. Public Works is mailing lead inventory letters to homes in areas that have not yet been inventoried. The city says the letters are legitimate and need to be completed; residents can use the QR code on the flyer or call Public Works at 801-451-2646 to schedule an appointment.
  • Water reminders. The city scheduled its secondary water shutoff for mid-September and says its culinary (household) water restrictions remain in effect and asks residents to keep conserving. Current restrictions are on the city website.
  • All Wheels Park needs a name. Farmington is replacing its 1996 skate park, which sits on land UDOT needs for the I-15 widening, with an all-wheels park that will reuse pieces of Lagoon’s retired JetStar2 roller coaster. The city received a $1 million state outdoor recreation grant toward construction, which it expects to begin in 2027, and is asking residents to send park name ideas to the mayor’s office.
