Syracuse Hosts Its First Hard-to-Recycle Drop-Off Event Oct. 17
Syracuse residents with a garage shelf full of dead batteries, old electronics or a worn-out mattress will have a place to take them next month. The city is hosting its first Collection of Hard to Recycle Materials event, known as CHaRM, with the Utah Recycling Alliance on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Park and Ride lot, 3221 S. 2000 W.
The goal is to keep items out of the landfill that can’t go in a curbside recycling can. The city is asking residents to reserve a spot ahead of time through the event’s Eventbrite registration page.
What you can bring
- Small appliances such as toasters and vacuums
- Batteries, including lithium, alkaline, rechargeable, lead-acid and car batteries
- Electronics and TVs, including computers, phones, tablets, printers and network gear
- Bicycles and bike parts
- Ink and toner cartridges
- Unbroken light bulbs (fluorescent, CFL, incandescent, LED)
- Mattresses and box springs — $20 each
- Tires — $8 each for car and truck tires, limit four per vehicle; bike tires and tubes are free; no commercial or semi tires
- Scrap metal (larger appliances may carry a fee)
- Clean, clear plastic clamshells and stretchy plastic film, bags and bubble wrap
- White, clean block Styrofoam (no food containers)
- Ski and snowboard gear (no clothing), socks, and used toothbrushes and empty toothpaste tubes
The event is for household items only — no business drop-offs — and the Utah Recycling Alliance can turn away items at its discretion. The full accepted-materials list is on the alliance’s website, linked from the city’s event page.
