South Weber Fire Department Takes On County Coverage, Joins Weber-Davis Aid Pact
Two agreements approved for South Weber’s Fire Department change how it covers ground outside the city and how it gets backup on big calls. Both were on the City Council’s Sept. 22 agenda, and both now appear on the city’s list of adopted resolutions.
Paid coverage for nearby unincorporated land
Resolution 26-38 approves an interlocal agreement with Davis County that makes South Weber’s Fire Department the primary fire responder for 53 unincorporated county parcels near the city. The fire chief’s staff report says the parcels total about 1,197 acres and that South Weber is already the practical first-due department for that land.
Under the agreement, the county pays the city $11.35 for every $10,000 of taxable value in the service area. The fee is adjusted each year for inflation and reduced if land is annexed out of the area. The city will also maintain public hydrants in that area served by its water system. The agreement is effective July 1, 2026, and runs through June 30, 2031. It states that if South Weber crews are already busy on a call, dispatch will send the next recommended department instead, so city calls stay first.
Backup across the county line
Resolution 26-39 approves an intercounty automatic aid agreement among fire agencies in Weber and Davis counties and Hill Air Force Base. When an incident commander asks for more help, pre-identified engines, water tenders, wildland units or ambulances from the neighboring county can be sent under a plan written by the fire chiefs. Help from Hill Air Force Base is on a mutual-aid, on-request basis. According to the staff report, there is no cost to take part. The agreement runs five years.
Why it matters
