Layton’s City Council voted 5–0 on Oct. 15 to rezone about 1.57 acres at 181 and 215 West 2675 North from CP-2 (Planned Community Commercial) to M-1 (Light Manufacturing/Industrial), and put off a decision on a city land purchase.

The rezone

Ordinance 26-28 changes the zoning on the two parcels at the request of RCB Design. According to the meeting record, M-1 allows light manufacturing and industrial flex uses. The Planning Commission held a public hearing on the request on Sept. 22 before it reached the council.

Residents who spoke at the council’s public hearing raised concerns about rezoning property to industrial categories, including worries that it could open the door to noisy uses such as data centers or heavy manufacturing. The council approved the request on a unanimous roll-call vote.

Land purchase tabled

The council tabled Resolution 26-44, a land purchase agreement for property at about 1337 East 1700 North, for more discussion. Tabled means no decision was made; the item can return on a future agenda.
