New I-15 Interchange at 1800 North Opens to Hill AFB First; Public Ramps Come in 2027
The new I-15 interchange at 1800 North in Sunset is scheduled to open next month, but not to everyone. UDOT’s 1800 North Improved project page says the interchange will open to Hill Air Force Base only in November 2026. The full interchange, including public on- and off-ramps for Sunset and Clinton drivers, is listed for 2027.
What opens in November
UDOT’s page does not spell out which gate or ramps the November opening covers. The project includes space for a future Hill Air Force Base entrance just east of the new I-15 alignment. Until the full interchange opens, Sunset and Clinton residents should plan on using the same exits they use today, such as 650 North in Clearfield and 5600 South in Roy.

The timeline, in UDOT’s words
- March 17, 2025: construction began.
- June 2026: northbound I-15 moved onto the new configuration.
- September 2026: southbound I-15 shift (our coverage).
- November 2026: interchange opens to Hill Air Force Base only.
- December 2026: the new 1800 North bridge over the railroad opens.
- 2027: the full interchange, with on- and off-ramps, opens.
- Through November 2027: construction continues.
UDOT’s dates have moved between updates. Its Sept. 18 release pointed to January for the railroad bridge, and an earlier version of the project page listed October 2027 for the full interchange. The current page gives December 2026 and “2027.” We will update this story as UDOT does.
What else the project includes
UDOT lists the project at $385 million in its 2025 construction announcement. Beyond the interchange, it widens I-15 between 650 North in Clearfield and 5600 South in Roy, widens 1800 North west to 2000 West, lifts 1800 North over the railroad tracks, adds a multi-use trail and pedestrian bridge, and leaves room for the future base gate.
What it means for 1800 North
Once public ramps open, more traffic is expected on 1800 North. Clinton’s draft West Focus Area Plan estimates traffic on the road could rise by up to 88%, as we reported in our Clinton West Focus Area Plan story. Businesses are already lining up along the corridor, including a car wash Sunset approved in September at 1689–1691 N. Main Street.
Construction dates and openings are set by UDOT, depend on weather and can change. Check UDOT Traffic before you travel.
