West Point Winter Parking Limits Start Nov. 15; Green Cans Open to Trash Dec. 1

Two seasonal rules change for West Point households as fall turns to winter: overnight street parking goes off-limits starting Nov. 15, and green waste cans can take regular trash again starting Dec. 1. Here’s what the city code and the city’s utility pages say.

Winter parking: Nov. 15 through the end of February

Under West Point City Code 10.05.050, the city enforces two parking limits each year from Nov. 15 through the last day of February:

• No parking on any city street between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., except for emergency personnel and city vehicles.
• No parking a vehicle on a street or alley for more than 21 hours in a row.

The goal is to keep streets clear for snowplows. The same section says those two limits apply all year to horse trailers, house trailers, junk cars, and vehicles or trucks larger than three-quarter-ton pickups.

A separate rule applies year-round: any vehicle or trailer left standing on a public street for 48 hours or more may be impounded, with towing and storage costs charged to the owner. The code section was last amended by Ordinance 09-02-2025A.

If you have extra vehicles, trailers or guests, now is a good time to plan where they’ll park overnight once mid-November arrives.

Green cans: yard waste only until Nov. 30

West Point’s curbside green waste program is voluntary. The city says that from April 1 through Nov. 30, only green yard waste should go in the green can. From Dec. 1 through March 31, residents may use the green can for other trash.

Garbage and green waste are collected weekly, and recycling every other week, by the city’s hauler, ACE Recycling & Disposal. Cans should be at the curb the night before or by 6 a.m. on your service day.
