Free Fishing Day Is This Saturday, June 6 — Where to Fish Free in Davis County

No fishing license? No problem — for one day. Saturday, June 6 is Utah’s annual Free Fishing Day, when anyone can fish any public water in the state without a license. It’s the one day a year built for trying the sport with your kids (or finally trying it yourself) at zero cost.

What “free” means — and what still applies

On Free Fishing Day the license requirement is waived for residents and nonresidents alike, according to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Everything else stays the same: daily catch limits and all other fishing regulations are still in force, so check the rules for your water before you keep fish.

Where to go in Davis County

You don’t need to drive to a mountain lake. Davis County’s community ponds are stocked regularly and are made for exactly this kind of low-stakes family morning:

  • Bountiful Pond (1450 W 750 N, Bountiful) — the county’s go-to community fishery, with shoreline access all the way around. See our Bountiful Pond guide for parking and what gets stocked.
  • Farmington Pond (600 N 200 E, Farmington) — small, scenic, and regularly stocked with rainbow trout; great for young kids.
  • Kaysville Ponds (about 50 W 200 N, Kaysville) — two connected ponds right off Main Street.
  • Jensen Nature Park (3176 S 3000 W, Syracuse) — pond fishing plus a playground and walking path to burn off the rest of the morning.

Stocking schedules change week to week — the DWR’s fish stocking report shows exactly what was planted where, and Fish Utah maps every public fishing spot in the county.

Make a morning of it

Go early — ponds get busy by mid-morning on Free Fishing Day. A simple spinning rod, a jar of PowerBait or worms, and a bobber are all most of these waters require. And if you land a good one, our readers want to see it: submit your catch photo and we may feature it on the site.
