Golfers at North Salt Lake’s city-owned Eaglewood Golf Course can expect a quieter ride. On Aug. 18, the City Council voted 5-0 to replace the course’s gas-powered golf carts with a new electric fleet, according to the council’s approved Aug. 18 meeting minutes.

What the council approved

The council took three related votes that night, each passing unanimously:

  • New electric carts. The purchase of new electric carts. The meeting packet describes trading in the existing gas carts, which staff called end-of-life, and buying 90 new carts while trading in 80.
  • Charging infrastructure. Electrical work and charging equipment for up to $50,000. A staff memo broke that down as about $28,960 for installation by JP Electric and $20,000 for charging equipment and materials.
  • GPS units for the new carts.

The numbers

According to the minutes, Golf Course Director Tyler Abegglen compared estimated costs, including trade-in, of about $318,000 for gas carts versus about $484,000 for electric, and recommended Club Car carts with lithium batteries and the Club Car Visage GPS system. He said the cart and GPS payments would not come until January or February 2027.

On Sept. 1, the council followed up with a public hearing and approved Resolution 2026-40R, a budget amendment that included the golf fund changes for the new carts, according to the approved Sept. 1 minutes. No one spoke at the hearing.

New 2027 rates

Also on Sept. 1, the council approved Resolution 2026-41R on its consent agenda, amending the city’s fee schedule for Eaglewood and the Event Center effective Jan. 1, 2027. The staff memo in the Sept. 1 packet listed a $23 base green fee, a $12 cart fee and a $30 spectator cart fee, and raised the North Salt Lake resident discount on Event Center rentals from 20% to 30%.
