Davis County’s Free Preparedness Fair Is Saturday at Western Sports Park in Farmington
Davis County Emergency Management is hosting its annual Preparedness Fair this Saturday, and the whole thing is free. The fair runs Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Western Sports Park Annex, 25 N. Sports Park Drive in Farmington.
The county describes the day as hands-on activities and demonstrations, local vendors and public service agencies, plus classes and speakers. In practice that means a morning where you can talk directly to the fire, EMS, law enforcement and emergency management people who would actually show up if something went wrong at your house — and ask them the specific questions you have been meaning to ask.
Why the county keeps doing this
Davis County sits along the Wasatch Front, and the county’s own preparedness materials do not soften the math on a major earthquake: tens of thousands of homes damaged, hundreds of thousands without water or power, and a recovery measured in weeks rather than days. Last Friday’s confirmed tornado touchdown in the mountains above Fruit Heights was a smaller reminder that severe weather here is not theoretical either.
An event like this is the low-effort version of getting ready. You do not have to build a year’s food storage on Saturday. Walking out with a working plan for where your family meets, how you shut off the gas, and what is actually in your kit is a real morning’s work.

The county is still taking volunteers for the fair, and it is looking for seminar speakers, public safety and service groups, and sponsors or vendors. Those inquiries go through the fair committee — contact details and the volunteer form are on the county’s fair page.
One thing to do before Saturday
Sign up for the county’s emergency alerts. Davis County uses Everbridge to push evacuation notices and emergency updates by text, phone call or email, and registering takes a couple of minutes. It is the single step on this list that works whether or not you make it to the fair.
