SR-177 Extension to West Haven: How to Weigh In Nov. 9–10

The Utah Department of Transportation wants to hear from residents about the next phase of SR-177, the highway many West Davis drivers know as the West Davis Highway. UDOT is studying an extension north from 1800 North in West Point to about 4000 South in West Haven, and it will share what the study found at two meetings in November.

If you live or commute in West Point, Clinton, Syracuse, Hooper, Roy or West Haven, this is the stage where public comments are collected for the record.

Being built now vs. still being studied

There are two separate SR-177 projects north of Syracuse, and they are easy to mix up.

  • Under construction: A 2.5-mile extension from SR-193 to 1800 North in West Point. UDOT is building it as a four-lane highway with a new interchange at SR-193, bridges over 300 North, 800 North and 1300 North, and an intersection at 1800 North. The Emigrant Trail will be extended to connect with the existing trail on 5500 West in Weber County. (Our earlier coverage of that project.)
  • Being studied: The stretch from 1800 North in West Point to roughly 4000 South in West Haven, following 5100 West through Hooper. UDOT calls this a State Environmental Study and expects to finish it in late 2026. In April, a UDOT spokesman told the Standard-Examiner this extension is not funded and has no construction timeline.

UDOT says the number of homes in western Davis and Weber counties is expected to grow 74% by 2050, and it describes SR-177 as part of its plan for the added traffic.

The two November meetings

UDOT says the same information will be shared at both meetings, so pick whichever fits your schedule.

  • Online presentation: Monday, Nov. 9, 6 to 7 p.m., by Zoom webinar. Register in advance on UDOT’s study website to receive the link. The study team will present its findings and answer common questions.
  • In-person public hearing: Tuesday, Nov. 10, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Roy Junior High School, 5347 S. 2100 W., Roy. It is an open house with no formal presentation, so you can drop in any time, talk with the study team and submit a formal comment.

Both meetings are on the Nov. 9 online presentation and Nov. 10 public hearing listings in our events calendar, where you can add them to your own calendar.

Can’t make it?

UDOT’s timeline calls for a 30-day public comment period alongside the draft study. Exact comment dates had not been posted as of Oct. 20. We will update this story when they are, so stay tuned to DavisCountyUtah.com and our West Point news page.

Meeting dates, times and locations come from UDOT and can change. Check UDOT’s study website before you go.
