South Weber Keeps Property Tax Rate at 0.001434, Adopts FY2027 Final Budget on 4-1 Votes
South Weber has finished its budget season. Official minutes show the City Council kept the city’s property tax rate at last year’s level and adopted a final budget for fiscal year 2026-27, each on a 4-1 vote.

On Aug. 11, after a Truth in Taxation public hearing, the council approved Resolution 26-32, setting the city’s tax year 2026 rate at 0.001434. That is the same rate as last year. Davis County’s certified rate, the rate that would have brought in about the same revenue as last year, was 0.001421. Under Utah law, keeping a rate above the certified rate counts as a tax increase, which is why a hearing was required. The Aug. 11 minutes were approved on the council’s Sept. 8 consent agenda.
City Manager David Larson told the council the choice would bring in about $13,000 more, an estimated 0.99% increase. Most of it would go to the Recreation Department, about $11,000, with about $2,000 for the tree and trail program. For a home valued near the city’s average of about $596,000, staff estimated the city portion of the bill would rise about $4.26 a year, or 36 cents a month.
Council members Jeremy Davis, Blair Halverson, Angie Petty and Wayne Winsor voted yes. Councilman Joel Dills voted no. He said the city should do a fuller long-term financial review, pointing to existing bond debt and the approach of buildout. Supporters said the vote keeps last year’s rate rather than raising it, and also called for more discussion of long-term spending. Two residents spoke at the hearing, one opposed and one generally supportive, and a third sent written comments.
Final budget adopted
On Aug. 25, the council adopted Resolution 26-34, the final budget for fiscal year 2026-27, on the same 4-1 split, with Dills voting no. Per the Aug. 25 minutes, the final budget matches the interim budget with no changes. The budget document lists a balanced citywide budget of about $24.3 million, with a general fund of about $7.24 million. Listed projects include a fire apparatus purchase, West Reservoir repair, street and sidewalk work, a green waste program and a Family Activity Center roof replacement.
