Aerospace Firm KIHOMAC Plans a $36 Million Layton Expansion and 177 New Jobs
A defense manufacturer already operating in Layton says it is expanding again — this time with a project the company expects to create 177 new jobs and put $36 million of capital investment into the state.
KIHOMAC announced the plan on Sept. 11. The company is veteran-owned, founded in 2003 and headquartered in Reston, Virginia, with more than 350 employees. Its work is aerospace engineering, reverse engineering, advanced manufacturing, custom fabrication and lifecycle support — the business of keeping aging military aircraft and weapon systems flying, and upgrading them when the mission changes.
That description explains why the company is in Davis County at all. Hill Air Force Base is the anchor of this local economy, and the ecosystem of engineering and fabrication firms around it exists largely to serve depot and sustainment work.
Who was at the table
The company credited a group of partners for the deal: Layton City, Davis County, R&O Construction, EDCUtah and the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development. The state approved an Economic Development Tax Increment Financing incentive for the project — a post-performance structure, meaning the company earns the benefit as it actually hits its hiring and investment targets rather than up front.
“Utah has been an important part of KIHOMAC’s growth for many years,” company President and COO Adam Grimm said in the announcement, citing the local aerospace workforce and proximity to customers.
What residents should and shouldn’t read into it
The announcement does not name a specific Layton address, a construction start date, or a hiring timeline, and job counts in economic development announcements are projections tied to multi-year agreements rather than openings posted next month. What it does signal is continued private investment in Layton’s defense-manufacturing corridor — on the heels of other large aerospace construction in the city this year.
For anyone in Davis County working in machining, composites, quality inspection or aerospace engineering, it is a name worth watching over the next couple of years.
