2026 Plein Air Competition: Painting the Great West

In celebration of America 250, the Bountiful Davis Art Center invites artists, sketchers, and nature lovers of all ages and experience levels to participate in this year’s outdoor art event in Mueller Park Canyon.
Inspired by the tradition of painting “in the open air,” this relaxed and flexible event encourages participants to spend time outdoors observing, sketching, painting, photographing, and responding to the landscape in their own way. Whether you create a finished painting, a quick study, or simply gather inspiration, all approaches are welcome.
This event is designed to be welcoming and accessible for both experienced plein air artists and first-time participants. Sketchbooks, watercolor kits, lightweight materials, and casual studies are all encouraged. Every registered participant will have the opportunity to exhibit one artwork in BDAC’s Underground Gallery as part of the final exhibition.
